The Lake District of Northern England is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, and knowledge of the landscape is crucial to understanding the Lakeland Terrier. Perhaps best known as the home of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth, both writers were deeply influenced by the natural beauty of the region.
Within the Lake District lies the highest peak in England (Scafell Pike at 3,209 feet above sea level), the deepest lake (Wastwater, 243 feet), and also features the Worlds Biggest Liar competition! (Lawyers and politicians are not allowed to enter!) The area is rugged and spectacularly beautiful, with scenic vistas around every turn. The region is about 30 miles by 30 miles and very rural, with sheep farms dotting the area and no major cities.
